Bayer Leverkusen finally earned their first Bundesliga victory of the 2025-26 season, defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in a lively encounter at the BayArena. Kasper Hjulmand’s men started with intensity, pressing high and forcing mistakes from the visitors, and they were rewarded early when Alejandro Grimaldo’s wickedly struck free-kick found the net after taking a slight deflection. That early breakthrough energized the home fans and gave Leverkusen control of the first half.
Their dominance was further rewarded just before the interval when Nathan Tella was brought down inside the box by Robin Koch. Patrik Schick stepped up and confidently slotted the penalty past Michael Zetterer, doubling the lead. Even with the numerical disadvantage, Leverkusen’s defensive structure held firm. Frankfurt pushed hard for an equalizer but lacked the cutting edge to truly trouble Lukas Hradecky, and their frustration grew as the minutes ticked away. Late drama arrived when Ezequiel Fernández was shown a red card in stoppage time, reducing Leverkusen to nine players, yet the home side refused to crumble.
In a remarkable twist, it was Leverkusen who struck last. Grimaldo capped off his outstanding performance by scoring again deep into added time, sealing the 3-1 win and sending the BayArena into celebration. The result not only marked Hjulmand’s first league victory in charge but also snapped Frankfurt’s unbeaten start to the season, proving that Leverkusen remain a force even when faced with adversity.
